MediShield Life is a basic health insurance plan, managed by the Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board. It provides coverage to Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents in paying the large hospital bills and selected costly outpatient treatments, such as dialysis and chemotherapy for cancer.
Integrated shield is an insurance plan sold by selected private insurers in Singapore. It is an additional coverage on top of MediShield Life plan and it covers the hospitalization in private hospitals or in A/B1 ward in a public hospitals.
MediShield Life is a basic health insurance plan. Integrated shield is a comprehensive health insurance plan and it provides additional coverage on top of MediShield Life.
For example, MediShield Life does not cover your hospitalization in a Private hospital or in A/B1 ward in a Public hospital. If you wish to get such coverage, you can purchase an Integrated Shield plan.
Some (but not all) Integrated Shield plans cover private hospital stay.
You can use your Medisave balance to pay the Integrated Shield policy premium. There is an annual on the Medisave balance which be used to pay this premium.
However, if you purchase an additional Integrated Shield rider, its premium has to be paid in cash.
